Violin challenge

I wonder if it is possible to learn to play the violin in three months. What's your opinion?

I'd say it depends on your definition of "playing the violin".

Paul Gardner once commented that "a painting is never finished -- it simply stops in interesting places."

The same could be said for learning to play the violin. I'm sure if you asked Lindsey, they'd tell you you never stop learning.

I mean I've never played the violin before and I want to challenge myself to learn to play at least one Lindsey's song. I play some other instruments so I know it's hard (especially technical stuff) but not impossible.

Most of Lindsey's stuff is fairly complicated. How good were you at the other instruments you play after three months?

For example, I bought an electric guitar a year ago and after one month playing by myself I was able to play several Red Hot Chili Peppers songs with guitar soli.
I also play the piano and the clarinet, mostly classical stuff. In my teachers' opinion after three months I were good.

The violin is said to be a pretty difficult instrument to learn, not exactly sure why, it could be because when you first start out you sound REALLY bad making you think that you stink more than you should for a beginner (Everyone sounds like a dying cat when they start). It could also be because of the awkward position that you hold it in, not sure, but if you manage to pick it up in three months that would be insane! Good luck!

Yes!
I learn by myself but I have to find a teacher who can correct me (my movement, etc...)

I think the answer to your question depends entirely on what you are willing to put into it, and any preexisting musical skills.

This is what I've been able to pull off after 9 months of learning to play viola. It took weekly private lessons plus anywhere between 0-8 hrs of practice every night in that time! I was obsessed, and looked for any and all opportunities to learn and practice. I also started taking voice lessons last month as a new project. Way back, when I was in middle school, I taught myself how to play Moonlight Sonata on a piano, literally note-by-note. It took me a very long time (over a year, I think) to finally get it since I had no prior training in piano whatsoever!
