What (NOT) to do, when Lindsey's album arrives in your mail...
Yesterday it finally came. I had not listened to the new songs so far (except for Elements and some bits and pieces from tour videos). And I still have not. At this point you are probably wondering what kind of lunatic I am.
Well, here's what I did. After removing the album (and merchandise) from the package, I paused for a moment, studying the inlay and stuff. Then I put the CD in my computer's drive and... ripped the tracks onto my harddrive - without quality loss in FLAC format. So now I can play it on my PC and I have a backup in case anything unfortunate were to happen to the actual physical CD. Good.
And then? Was there a fire alarm or anything else that would have kept me from listening to the album? No, nothing at all. But instead of doing that I called a friend who had invested in a new speaker setup a few months ago. A fairly expensive high-quality speaker set which is easily superior to mine.
We will both be listening to it from start to finish this Saturday. And I'll patiently wait a few more days to ensure that my first time hearing it will be with the highest audio quality I can get. I want to savor Lindsey's music to the fullest.

I'm afraid I can't hear the small differences with high quality equipment, so for me 384kb/s with my headphones probably are enough. (Especially since I don't have such equipment )
But you are in for a treat!

I think you shouldn´t overestimate the technology, you´ll use because a) it´s not your own speaker set and b) the source is the most important thing. with FLAC you chose the ultimate quality level. And as far as you are no event techician(hope this is the correct translation for the job) and specialist for sound and audio technology, you won´t be able to perceive the difference between these high quality speakers(I´d say high quality starts at about 70 bugs per speaker, 150-200 for an amp of yamaha, 70 for the subwoofer) and an average speaker set for example of Logitech.
For example I can´t hear a difference between my headset(Turtle Beach PX21) and my Sennheiser HD595(which I used at my mobile and at my pc). I also got a scene release(because I didn´t find a way to download the album with the same iTunes account a second time at my laptop while I was at my parents) and my original itunes bought version of the album. And both are at the same quality level. I didn´t compare the details like the frequency level but I guess, they are not the same.

I instead, thanks to youtube, I know all the songs.
I'm waiting for the physical cd but I'm undecided whether to open it and listen to it or else collezionarlo still sealed when it arrives.

@marco
The old songs on the album have been remastered, and AFAIK only the old versions of the old songs can be found on YouTube. Though I can't yet tell whether there's an audible difference.
@Bladewing
My own setup roughly matches what you describe as high quality. And it's actually not bad at all.
BUT it pales in comparison to my friend's. His Nubert speakers (German manufacturer) reproduce sounds very accurately and clearly across the whole audible frequency spectrum. It's hard to describe the difference, but it is without a doubt there, and I can't imagine anyone being unable to hear it unless they are deaf.
And you are of course correct that the quality of the source matters. Can't go wrong with FLAC (though I would not claim I could actually tell the difference to 384kb/s MP3). With my friend's setup you can identify flaws and poor production quality, that may otherwise go unnoticed. I had this kind of disappointing experience with Amaranth by Nightwish.

Really? I listened to Amaranth a lot of times and never noticed any issue.
And I know Nubert. I guess, there´s no manufacturer whose product´s quality is more high at that prize level. One step under Nubert, I think there´s for example Teufel(also a german company).
Because I imagine a wrong translation by myself I have to ask:
What do you mean with the following part: "though I would not claim I could actually tell the difference to 384kb/s MP3"
Is it like "I couldn´t imagine that there is a difference between FLAC and 384kb/s mp3 files"? Otherwise I´d request you to reposition the sentence and maybe add or remove words. But because I´d like to improve my skill I´d like to translate it myself.

It's more that there probably is a difference between FLAC and 384kb/s, but most people wouldn't recognize it, except you have very good hearing.

Listening to the album on those speakers was totally worth it. Moon Trance is now one of my favorites (and the video is coming out today! YAY!).
@Bladewing
I never noticed anything wrong with Amaranth before either. But on those speakers the percussion had an unusually hollow sound to it, and Anette's voice did not sound perfectly clear either.
And what I meant to say about FLAC was:
Ich will nicht behaupten, dass ich tatsächlich den Unterschied zu 384kbps MP3 erkennen könnte. Maybe with Nubert speakers I could. I have never tried. Anyway I'd rather waste a little disc space than compromise on audio quality with Lindsey's songs.
